Introduction
From wearable insulin injection devices to drug coated implants, innovative drug delivery technologies have been developing. Innovative drug delivery technologies related to vaccines, vision correction and more treatment fields are being developed and put into the market. Recently, drug delivery bussiness summarized six innovative delivery technologies, and the author selected five of them for introduction.
(1) Needle free delivery
Vaccines have become the focus of attention in the pharmaceutical field, and more and more companies are investing in developing more effective delivery methods. One of the main obstacles to vaccination is the fear of needles. Needle free injection may make a huge wave.
Two companies are currently leading the field, pharmajet and novaxs.
Pharmajet's needle free delivery technology platform has cooperated with more than 50 pharmaceutical companies to deliver RNA vaccines and DNA vaccines, and has now entered the stage of clinical research.

Novaxs was founded in the University of California, Berkeley. Using its patented technology (in patent application), novaxs developed "intelligent" needle free delivery technology, which can control the narrow drug flow in 0.3 seconds without a needle, and analyze injection data for intelligent control.
(2)Automatic injector
In 2020, intevia of BD (Becton Dickinson) ™ Automatic injection technology won the 2020 Frost & Sullivan Global Technology Innovation Award. Intevia is a hand-held, disposable injection system for subcutaneous injection, which is completely completed by individuals. It is mainly used to deliver biological products and can adapt to drug injections of different volumes.

After that, Phillips medisize listed aria automatic injection system in 2021, and Jabil healthcare listed its qfinity automatic injection system in 2022.
(3) New generation diabetes injection technology
In the past few years, many giant players have invested in the development of new technologies for diabetes, such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors (CGMS).
In January 2022, FDA approved insulet's new generation omnipod 5 wearable insulin pump injection system. In 2022, senseonics launched the new generation eversense CGM. In May 2022, Abbott launched the new generation freestyle Libre 3 CGM.
Other players like cequr's simplicity wearable insulin pen are in the market review. In addition, the giants in this field are also developing a new generation of technology and pushing it to the market. Dexcom's G7 CGM is planned to be launched in 2022, and Medtronic's MiniMed 780g insulin pump is planned to be launched in 2023.
(4) Drug eluting contact lens
Dr. Brian pal, clinical scientific director of vision at Johnson & Johnson, said that as early as the 1960s, efforts had been made to promote the idea of delivering drugs through contact lenses. Johnson & Johnson also became the first company to market drug-eluting contact lenses. In April 2021, Canada first approved Johnson & Johnson's Acuvue theravision with ketotifen. In May of the same year, it was approved by Japan's PMDA for listing. In addition, FDA approved it in March 2022.
Acuvue theravision is a contact lens containing ketotifen. After implantation, the drug can be released, which is used to treat eye allergy. The clinical phase 3 data showed that the itching of allergic eyes was significantly reduced within 3 minutes after the lens was implanted, and there was a statistical difference between them, lasting for up to 12 hours.
(5) Intelligent drug delivery system
In recent years, zicoh intelligent drug dose control delivery equipment from vivera company has attracted people's attention. Regarding zicoh technology, it has been granted three patents by the U.S. patent office. This technology can be applied to oral dosage forms (tablets, capsules, etc.)
Precise dose control is carried out for drug administration. Prescription doctors prevent drug abuse and addiction by programming the dose and frequency of drug administration. For example, the use of opioids is a major application scenario.
